Ford Barra

The Ford Barra is a turbocharged 4.0L inline-six engine produced in Australia between 2002 and 2016. It was developed by Ford Australia as a successor to the SOHC "Intech" series and debuted in the BA Falcon. Barra engines are part of Ford’s I6 engine family and are known for their cast iron blocks, 24-valve DOHC heads, and outstanding durability—making them extremely popular in the tuning world, especially the turbocharged versions with engine codes Barra 240T, Barra 270T, and Barra 310T.

Stock output ranged from 240 to 325 horsepower and over 500 Nm of torque, while modified versions can exceed 1000 hp without internal block reinforcement.

Although the Barra engine was never officially offered outside Australia and New Zealand, it is now considered one of the most legendary inline-six engines in automotive history—comparable to Japan’s Toyota 2JZ or Germany’s BMW M50/M54.
