BMW B58
BMW B58 is a turbocharged 3.0L inline-six engine produced since 2015. It replaced the N55 and debuted in the F30 340i. The B58 is part of BMW’s modular engine family — each cylinder has a displacement of 500 cm³, just like the earlier B38 (3-cylinder) and B48 (4-cylinder) engines. The B58 has been named to Ward’s 10 Best Engines list four times:
- 2016 – BMW 340i
- 2017 – BMW M240i
- 2019 – BMW X5
- 2020 – BMW M340i
The S58 engine, introduced in early 2019, is the high-performance version of the B58. It also earned a spot on Ward’s 10 Best Engines list in 2023 for its application in the new BMW M2.
