Installation manual

Bolt the flywheel to the crankshaft using the supplied bolts torqued to 72 Nm (53.1 lb⋅ft) with medium threadlocker applied. The release bearing and clutch fork are included in the kit – mount the clutch fork on the higher position of the release bearing, and shorten the release bearing from the Sachs XTend kit by 5 mm – as shown in the graphics below. Installing the adapter requires a BMW M50 / M52 / M54 starter motor (not included in the kit) – the starter motor adapter is included in the kit. On certain Ford Barra engine versions, the starter adapter plate may require minor grinding clearance adjustments.

No. The adapter is engineered to eliminate cutting off the bellhousing – only an opening for the starter motor needs to be prepared.

What additional parts are required for installation?

A clutch slave cylinder dedicated to your specific gearbox and a BMW M50 / M52 / M54 starter motor (see question below). These parts are not included in the kit. The PMC flywheel does not require an automatic version flexplate.

Which release bearing position should the clutch fork be installed on?

On the higher position of the dual-position release bearing included in the kit. Refer to the graphic in the "Installation manual" section for details.

Do I need to modify the release bearing?

Yes. When installing the twin-disc kit, the release bearing from the Sachs XTend kit must be shortened by 5 mm. The procedure is shown in the graphic in the "Installation manual" section.

Is the included manual sufficient to complete the installation?

The manual covers mating the engine to the transmission outside the vehicle chassis. Depending on your car chassis, additional custom modifications may be required: engine mounts, crossmembers, firewall clearance, transmission tunnel modifications, driveshaft sizing. We strongly recommend professional installation.

Please note that a lightweight single-mass flywheel delivers uncompromising throttle response by eliminating factory dual-mass damping components. This results in a more direct drivetrain connection, which can naturally increase the audible operating noises of the transmission gears. This is a normal and sought-after characteristic in performance and motorsport applications resulting from the rigid mechanical connection between the engine and the drivetrain.
