Installation Instructions

Installing the flywheel requires using an automatic flexplate (ring gear) Mercedes-Benz OE A2730300312 and the OE washer placed between the engine block and flexplate (not included). Bolt the flywheel to the crankshaft using the supplied bolts torqued to 80 Nm (59 lb⋅ft) with threadlocker applied. Mount the clutch fork (dedicated to your specific gearbox) on the lower pivot position of the release bearing (if using a dual-position release bearing). The GS6-53DZ HGA (E46 330d) and GS6X53DZ HGB (xDrive) gearboxes bolt to the adapter plate following the exact same pattern as the M57 GS5-39DZ gearbox – refer to the M57 gearbox installation diagram; while HGD, JGA, HGE, and JGB gearboxes follow the M57N diagram. An original Mercedes-Benz M113 / M113K starter motor must be used (OE, not included). The release bearing, clutch fork, and clutch slave cylinder are not included in the kit – they are retained from your gearbox.

All other gearboxes (HGD, JGA, HGE, JGB) follow the M57N diagram.

Is it necessary to cut or modify the gearbox bellhousing?

No. The adapter is specifically engineered to prevent cutting the bellhousing – only an opening for the starter needs to be prepared.

What additional parts are required for installation?

A release bearing, clutch fork, and clutch slave cylinder dedicated to your gearbox, the automatic flexplate (ring gear) Mercedes-Benz OE A2730300312 with OE washer, and an OEM Mercedes-Benz M113 / M113K starter motor (see question below). These parts are not included in the kit.

Is this kit suitable for a daily driver?

The Race Stage 1 kit with a sintered disc is primarily intended for motorsport – clutch engagement is much sharper, firmer, and less progressive than an organic disc. For predominantly street or daily driven vehicles, we recommend the Stage 1 kit with the Sachs XTend clutch.

Can I use a different clutch setup?

Yes. The PMC Motorsport flywheel is designed for a 240 mm BMW OE type pressure plate – from BMW M57 / M57N / M57N2 (including the factory GS6-53DZ pressure plate) / N54 / B58 / E46 M3 or Sachs Performance 883082.001243. Aftermarket setups from ACT / Spec / Tanaci are also commonly used – any aftermarket pressure plate must fit a BMW OE flywheel pattern (M57 / M57N / M57N2 / N54 / B58).

Which starter motor should be used?

An original Mercedes-Benz M113 / M113K (OE) starter motor. The starter motor is not included in the kit.

Can I use this adapter with other BMW transmissions, such as GS5-39DZ or GS6-53BZ?

Yes. The PMC Motorsport gearbox adapter plate itself is universal and fits most BMW manual transmissions (applies to adapter plates manufactured after 2022). If you switch to another transmission model, you only need to swap the flywheel and clutch disc.

Is this adapter also compatible with the ZF 8HP automatic transmission?

Yes. The PMC Motorsport adapter plate is universal and fits most BMW transmissions (applies to adapter plates manufactured after 2022). When converting to a ZF 8HP automatic transmission, the standard flywheel is simply replaced with a PMC Motorsport 8HP torque converter adapter.

What does the kit include?

Is the included installation manual sufficient for a complete swap?

The manual strictly covers the mechanical mating of the engine and gearbox outside the vehicle chassis. Depending on your chassis, additional custom fabrication may be necessary (engine mounts, crossmembers, firewall modification, transmission tunnel clearance, driveshaft length). Professional installation is strongly advised.

Please note that a lightweight single-mass flywheel delivers immediate, uncompromising throttle response at the expense of eliminating OEM damping elements. This creates a much more direct drivetrain connection, which may result in a noticeable increase in transmission gear chatter and drivetrain noise. This is a normal and expected characteristic in performance and motorsport applications resulting from rigid drivetrain coupling.
