Installation Instructions

Installing the flywheel requires using an automatic flexplate (ring gear) Mercedes-Benz OE A2730300312 (not included). Crankshaft bolts are included in the kit. The release bearing and clutch fork remain from your gearbox – if using a dual-position release bearing, use the 28.5 mm position. The gearbox guide tube (BMW OE 23 11 7 501 714) must be shortened – according to the graphic below. Clutch master cylinder adaptation is also required: use a master cylinder with a smaller bore diameter or shorten the pedal/master cylinder stroke. The GS6-53DZ HGA (E46 330d) gearbox bolts to the adapter plate following the exact same pattern as the M57 GS5-39DZ gearbox – refer to the M57 gearbox installation diagram; while HGD and JGA gearboxes follow the M57N diagram. An original Mercedes-Benz M113 starter motor must be used (OE, not included).

Is it necessary to cut or modify the gearbox bellhousing?

No. The adapter is specifically engineered to prevent cutting the bellhousing – only an opening for the starter needs to be prepared.

What additional parts are required for installation?

The automatic flexplate (ring gear) Mercedes-Benz OE A2730300312 and an OEM Mercedes-Benz M113 starter motor (OE). You also need a clutch slave cylinder dedicated to the GS6-53DZ gearbox and a clutch master cylinder with a smaller bore diameter (or a master cylinder with shortened stroke) – the release bearing and clutch fork are retained from your gearbox. These components are not included in the kit.

Does the gearbox require modification?

Yes. When installing a 184 mm clutch, the gearbox guide tube (BMW OE 23 11 7 501 714) must be shortened, a dual-position release bearing must be set to the 28.5 mm position, and the clutch master cylinder must be adapted (smaller bore diameter or shortened stroke). The procedure is shown in the graphic in the "Installation Instructions" section.

Is this kit suitable for a daily driver?

No. The Race Stage 3 kit with a high-performance Tilton multi-disc clutch is strictly intended for motorsport and drifting. For a vehicle used on a daily basis, we recommend the adapter version with a flywheel for a 240 mm BMW pressure plate.

Which starter motor should be used?

An original Mercedes-Benz M113 (OE) starter motor. The starter motor is not included in the kit.

Is this adapter also compatible with the ZF 8HP automatic transmission?

Yes. The PMC Motorsport adapter plate is universal and fits most BMW transmissions (applies to adapter plates manufactured after 2022). When converting to a ZF 8HP automatic transmission, the standard flywheel is simply replaced with a PMC Motorsport 8HP torque converter adapter.

What does the kit include?

Is the included installation manual sufficient for a complete swap?

The manual strictly covers the mechanical mating of the engine and gearbox outside the vehicle chassis. Depending on your chassis, additional custom fabrication may be necessary (engine mounts, crossmembers, firewall modification, transmission tunnel clearance, driveshaft length). Professional installation is strongly advised.

Please note that a lightweight single-mass flywheel delivers immediate, uncompromising throttle response at the expense of eliminating OEM damping elements. This creates a much more direct drivetrain connection, which may result in a noticeable increase in transmission gear chatter and drivetrain noise. This is a normal and expected characteristic in performance and motorsport applications resulting from rigid drivetrain coupling.
