Installation instructions

To install the flywheel, it is necessary to use the flexplate / starter ring gear from automatic version Toyota 1JZ / 2JZ OE 32101-30090 (3210130090) or OE 32101-22050 (3210122050) and a Toyota OE 32116-22020 (3211622020) 4.5 mm spacer plate between the engine block and the ring gear (not included).

For adapter installation, a Toyota JZ OE starter motor without an additional pinion cover must be used (not included). Enlarging the lower mounting hole of the JZ starter motor is required – the installation method depends on the adapter's manufacturing year (details in the FAQ section).

Mount the clutch release fork on the lower position of the release bearing (in case of a 2-position bearing).

In ZF-5 (ZF 310 / ZF 320) and Getrag 250 / 420G gearboxes, the two upper holes in the gearbox housing (bellhousing) must be slightly grinded – this modification does not affect the centering of the engine and gearbox.

Release bearing, clutch release fork, and slave cylinder are not included in the kit: BMW OE release bearing 21 51 7 521 360 (1-position) or 21 51 7 570 154 (2-position), BMW OE clutch release fork 21 51 1 223 302 (1-position) or 21 51 7 564 027 (2-position), BMW OE slave cylinder 21 52 1 164 529 (Ø 23.81 mm).

Which gearboxes does the adapter fit?

For 5-speed ZF-5 (ZF S5D-310 / ZF 310 and ZF S5D-320 / ZF 320) and Getrag S5D-250G gearboxes from BMW with M50 / M52 / M54 / S50 / S52 / S54 engines (including E36 328i, E46 328i / 328Ci / 330i, E34 525i, E39 525i / 528i / 530i, Z3 2.8i / 3.0i), as well as the 6-speed Getrag 420G (TBAB, TAGU) gearbox from BMW E36 M3 (S50). Do I need to cut the gearbox bellhousing?

No. The adapter is designed to avoid cutting the bellhousing – only a cutout for the starter motor needs to be prepared.

Does the ZF-5 / Getrag gearbox fit into all holes of the adapter?

The PMC Motorsport adapter is the most universal adapter available on the market, supporting virtually every BMW gearbox. When designing it, we decided on a slight compromise – in Getrag 250 / Getrag 420 / ZF 310 / ZF 320 / ZF-5 gearboxes, the two upper holes in the gearbox housing (bellhousing) must be slightly grinded. This modification does not affect the centering of the engine and gearbox.

What parts do I need to buy separately for installation?

Starter ring gear (flexplate) from Toyota 1JZ / 2JZ automatic version – OE 32101-30090 (3210130090) or OE 32101-22050 (3210122050) – and one Toyota OE 32116-22020 (3211622020) 4.5 mm spacer plate installed between the engine block and the ring gear. A Toyota JZ starter motor is also required (see question below). These parts are not included in the kit.

Which starter motor should be used?

Toyota JZ OE starter motor without an additional pinion cover. Starter motor is not included in the kit. The mounting method depends on the adapter's manufacturing year:

a) adapters manufactured up to 2022 – starter motor installs identically to original equipment (OE);

b) adapters manufactured from 2022 to 2025 – one of the starter mounting holes in the engine block must be enlarged: drill with a bit to a diameter of ∅12.9–13.2 mm (0.507"–0.520") to a depth of 22 mm (0.866"), use the bushing from the AN 335-M10 kit and bolt with an ISO 4762-M10x35 bolt;

c) adapters manufactured from January 2025 – the lower mounting hole in the starter motor must be enlarged to a diameter of ∅12–13 mm and the engine block threaded to M12x1.5.

Which clutch pressure plate fits the PMC flywheel?

240 mm (9.45") BMW OE type pressure plate – from BMW M57 / M57N / M57N2 / N54 / B58 / E46 M3 or Sachs Performance 883082.001243. Clutches from ACT / Spec / Tanaci are also often used – custom pressure plates must fit the BMW OE flywheel (M57 / M57N / M57N2 / N54 / B58). For the ZF-5 gearbox, use a 240 mm clutch disc with 23x29-10N splines, a dedicated release bearing kit, and a slave cylinder.

Can I use the adapter with a 6-speed GS6-53DZ / GS6-53BZ gearbox?

Yes. The PMC Motorsport gearbox adapter itself is universal and fits most BMW gearboxes (applies to adapters manufactured after 2022). In case of changing the gearbox, you only need to replace the flywheel and clutch disc.

Does the adapter also fit the ZF 8HP automatic transmission?

Yes. The PMC Motorsport gearbox adapter itself is universal and fits most BMW gearboxes (applies to adapters manufactured after 2022). When converting to a ZF 8HP automatic transmission, the standard flywheel must be replaced with the PMC Motorsport 8HP torque converter adapter.

Can I buy only the adapter or only the flywheel?

Yes. Every component of the kit is available separately.

Does the price include customs duty when shipping outside the European Union?

No. Product price and shipping estimate do not include customs duties or extra fees that may apply in the destination country.

Can I buy with 0% VAT?

Yes, if you are a B2B customer outside Poland with an active EU VAT number (verified in VIES) or ordering for export outside the EU.

Is the included manual enough for installation?

The manual describes joining the engine and gearbox outside the chassis. Depending on the car, extra modifications may be needed: mounts, bushings, firewall, transmission tunnel, driveshaft length. Professional installation recommended.

It is worth noting that a lightweight single-mass flywheel provides uncompromising throttle response at the expense of eliminating factory dampening elements. This results in a more direct drivetrain operation, which can naturally increase the noise generated by the gearbox mechanism. This is a desirable characteristic in sports vehicles resulting from the rigid engine-to-drivetrain connection.
