The installation manual contains a basic diagram for mounting the engine with the gearbox outside the car.
The gearbox adapter is made of aluminum and is fully recyclable.
The gearbox adapter should be mounted to the engine first.

1. How to connect the ZF 8HP converter to a BMW M50 M52 M54 S50 S52 S54 engine?
To connect a BMW M50 M52 M54 S50 S52 S54 engine with an automatic ZF 8HP gearbox converter from BMW (inline engine version), you need to use a PMC Motorsport gearbox adapter and the OE ring gear along with the converter from your 8HP gearbox (flywheel from the automatic version). No additional converter adapter is needed.
2. Which starter should be used when converting ZF 8HP with a BMW M50 M52 M54 S50 S52 S54 engine?
Thanks to the PMC Motorsport gearbox adapter, there is no need to replace the starter; the OE starter from the BMW M50 M52 M54 S50 S52 S54 remains.

We have a customer here with an E46 330xi who is interested in replacing his ZF transmission, and we have suggested doing an 8HP swap. I am curious if you all know if any adapters will be needed to retain the AWD transfer case on this car. Thank you, James Harmon

Our adapter works with M54, but for the xdrive transfer case You need to either modify drivetrain or use complete transter case from 8HP.
The main problem is lengthiness of 8hp, which is longer than stock transmission of 330xi. We have no ready solution for that.
