Installation Instructions

For flywheel installation, it is required to use the automatic flexplate / starter ring gear Toyota OE 32101-30090 or 32101-22050 and a 4.5 mm spacer washer between the engine block and flexplate, Toyota OE 32116-22020 (not included). The crankshaft pilot bearing (if present) must be removed and replaced with the pilot bushing. Torque the flywheel to the crankshaft using the supplied bolts to 72 Nm (53.1 lb⋅ft) with threadlocker. Two mounting holes of the Getrag 420G gearbox need to be slightly trimmed/ground – as shown in the graphic below. Release bearing and clutch fork remain from your gearbox – for a two-position release bearing, use the 24 mm position. The original pivot ball must be replaced with the custom one included in the kit. For adapter installation, use a Toyota JZ starter motor without a nose cone / pinion shield – see details in the FAQ section.

Which gearboxes is this adapter compatible with?

For 6-speed manual Getrag 420G from BMW E46 M3 with S54 engine – in TBAI and TBAK (SMG) versions – as well as motorsport dogbox and sequential gearboxes with Getrag 420G bellhousing, e.g., GearMotive Racing Dogbox BMW and D.M.A BMW sequential gearbox (S54, ZF 28x35-10N).

Do I need to cut the gearbox bellhousing?

No. The adapter is designed to avoid cutting the bellhousing – you only need to prepare an opening for the starter motor.

What extra parts do I need to buy for installation?

Automatic Toyota 1JZ / 2JZ flexplate / ring gear, OE 32101-30090 or 32101-22050, and one 4.5 mm spacer washer between engine block and flexplate, Toyota OE 32116-22020. You also need a 240 mm pressure plate and clutch disc, Toyota JZ starter motor (see question below), and a release bearing, clutch fork, and clutch slave cylinder specific to your gearbox. These parts are not included in the kit.

Which clutch fits the PMC flywheel?

A 240 mm (9.45") pressure plate, BMW M57 or E46 M3 type – e.g. Sachs Performance 883082.001243 or Sachs XTend 3000 951 877 (BMW M57). Pressure plates from BMW M50 / M52 / M54 / S50 / E36 M3 do not fit. A 240 mm clutch disc with 28x35-10N spline (10 teeth) for Getrag 420G gearbox.

Which starter motor should be used?

Toyota JZ starter motor without a nose cone / pinion shield. Installation method depends on the adapter version:

a) adapters produced up to 2022 – starter is installed identically to original equipment (OE);

b) adapters produced from 2022 to 2025 – one of the starter mounting holes in the engine block must be reamed to a diameter of ∅12.9–13.2 mm (0.507"–0.520") to a depth of 22 mm (0.866"), then use the bushing from kit AN 335-M10 and bolt it with an ISO 4762-M10x35 bolt;

c) adapters manufactured from January 2025 – enlarge the lower mounting hole in the starter motor to a diameter of ∅12–13 mm and thread the engine block to M12x1.5.

Does the adapter plate also fit the ZF 8HP automatic transmission?

Yes. The PMC Motorsport adapter plate itself is universal and fits most BMW gearboxes (applies to adapter plates manufactured after 2022). When converting to a ZF 8HP automatic transmission, the standard flywheel must be replaced with a PMC Motorsport 8HP torque converter adapter.

What does the kit include?

Universal aluminum PMC F0BMW-JZ gearbox adapter plate (20 mm) with mounting bolts, custom PMC Motorsport flywheel with replaceable friction plate (5.0 kg / 11 lbs), crankshaft bolts, pressure plate bolts, and pivot ball – replacement for BMW OE 21 51 1 223 328.

Is the flywheel balanced?

Yes. Every PMC Motorsport flywheel is balanced before shipping (tolerance 4 g). In case of installing a custom clutch setup, we recommend additional balance checking.

Can I buy just the adapter plate or just the flywheel?

Yes. Every item in the kit is available separately.

Does the price include customs duty for shipments outside the European Union?

No. The product price and shipping quote do not include customs duties or additional fees that may apply in the recipient's country.

Can I buy with 0% VAT?

Is the supplied manual sufficient for installation?

The manual covers mating the engine and transmission outside the vehicle body. Depending on the car model, additional modifications may be required: engine mounts, bushings, firewall clearance, transmission tunnel, driveshaft length. We recommend professional installation.

It is worth noting that a lightweight single-mass flywheel provides an uncompromising throttle response at the cost of eliminating factory damping components. This results in a more direct drivetrain operation, which may lead to a natural increase in gear noise from the transmission.
