Complete Race Stage 1+ clutch kit allowing you to connect (swap / convert) a Toyota JZ 1JZ 2JZ engine with the manual 6-speed ZF GS6-53BZ transmission used in N54-powered BMWs. Installation Instructions

To install the flywheel, you must use the flexplate (ring gear) from an automatic Toyota OE 32101-30090 or 32101-22050, along with a 4.5 mm spacer between the engine block and the flexplate, Toyota OE 32116-22020 (not included in the kit). The flywheel is bolted to the crankshaft using the included bolts, torqued to 72 Nm (53.1 lb⋅ft) with threadlocker applied. The clutch release arm from the kit must be mounted in the lower position on the release bearing (if using a two-position bearing). To install the adapter, you must use a Toyota JZ starter motor without an additional pinion shield – see the FAQ section for details.

How much torque can the Race Stage 1+ kit handle?

The maximum torque capacity of this kit is 800 Nm (590 lb⋅ft).

Is this kit suitable for a daily driver car?

The Race Stage 1+ kit with a sintered disc is intended primarily for motorsport – the clutch operates harsher and less smoothly than an organic disc. For a car used mainly daily, we recommend the Stage 1 kit with a Sachs XTend clutch.

Can I use a different clutch?

Yes. The PMC Motorsport flywheel is designed for a 240 mm BMW OE type pressure plate – from BMW M57 / M57N / M57N2 / N54 / B58 / E46 M3 or Sachs Performance 883082.001243. Custom clutches like ACT / Spec / Tanaci are also frequently used – the custom pressure plate must match the BMW OE flywheel mounting pattern (M57 / M57N / M57N2 / N54 / B58).

Which starter motor should be used?

A Toyota JZ starter motor without an additional pinion shield. Installation depends on the adapter version:

a) Adapters manufactured up to 2022 – the starter is mounted identically to original equipment (OE);

b) Adapters manufactured from 2022 to 2025 – one of the starter mounting holes in the engine block must be drilled out to ∅12.9–13.2 mm (0.507"–0.520") to a depth of 22 mm (0.866"), then insert the sleeve provided in the AN 335-M10 kit and bolt it using an ISO 4762-M10x35 bolt;

c) Adapters manufactured from January 2025 onwards – the lower mounting hole in the starter motor must be enlarged to ∅12–13 mm and the engine block threaded to M12x1.5.

Does the adapter also fit the ZF 8HP automatic transmission?

Yes. The PMC Motorsport transmission adapter plate itself is universal and fits most BMW gearboxes (applies to adapters manufactured after 2022). When converting to a ZF 8HP automatic transmission, the standard flywheel must be replaced with the PMC Motorsport 8HP torque converter adapter.

Both kits feature the same adapter plate, flywheel, Sachs Performance pressure plate, and sintered disc (max. 800 Nm). Race Stage 1+ additionally includes a steel release bearing with clutch fork and a Brembo clutch slave cylinder, so you don't need to source or purchase them separately.

Can I purchase only the adapter or only the flywheel?

Yes. Every element of the kit is available separately – including just the adapter plate with flywheel, without the clutch.

Does the price include customs duty for shipments outside the European Union?

No. Product prices and shipping quotes do not include customs duties or import fees that may apply in the destination country.

Can I buy with 0% VAT?

Are the included instructions sufficient for complete installation?

The manual covers mating the engine to the transmission outside the vehicle. Depending on the car, extra modifications may be required (mounts, bushings, firewall, transmission tunnel, driveshaft length). We recommend installation by professional technicians.

Please note that a lightweight rigid single-mass flywheel delivers uncompromised throttle response at the expense of factory dampening elements. This results in a more direct drivetrain connection, which may naturally increase gear noise transmission from the gearbox. This is an expected and desirable characteristic in performance vehicles resulting from a solid engine-drivetrain link.
