Complete Race Stage 1+ clutch kit enabling the connection (swap / conversion) of the Ford Barra engine (4.0 inline-6 from Ford Falcon and Territory – naturally aspirated and turbo, incl. 190, 195, 240T, 245T, 270T, 325T) with the 5-speed manual gearbox ZF GS5-39DZ used in BMW M57 diesel engines (E39 525d / 530d, E46 330d). Installation guide

Tighten the flywheel to the crankshaft using the supplied bolts to 72 Nm (53.1 lb⋅ft) with threadlocker. For adapter installation, a BMW M50 / M52 / M54 starter motor is required (not included) – the starter adapter is included in the kit. Release bearing, clutch fork, and slave cylinder are included in the kit.

Is it necessary to cut the gearbox bellhousing?

No. The adapter is designed to avoid cutting the bellhousing – you only need to prepare an opening for the starter motor.

What additional parts do I need to buy for installation?

You will need a BMW M50 / M52 / M54 starter motor (see question below). These parts are not included in the kit.

Reinforced Sachs Performance 883082.001243 (88 308 200 1243) pressure plate with a diameter of 240 mm (9.45"), non-self-adjusting, and PMC 240 mm sintered clutch disc with 28x35-10N spline (10 teeth) for the ZF GS5-39DZ transmission. The kit is completed with a release module (release bearing with clutch fork) and slave cylinder.

What torque capacity does the Race Stage 1+ kit support?

The maximum torque rating for the kit is 800 Nm (590 lb⋅ft).

Is this kit suitable for a daily driven car?

The Race Stage 1+ kit with a sintered disc is primarily intended for motorsport – the clutch operates harsher and less smoothly than an organic disc. For a vehicle used mainly daily, we recommend the Stage 1 kit with a Sachs XTend clutch.

Can I use a different clutch?

Yes. The PMC Motorsport flywheel is designed for a BMW OE type 240 mm pressure plate – from BMW M57 / M57N / M57N2 / N54 / B58 / E46 M3 or Sachs Performance 883082.001243. ACT / Spec / Tanaci clutches are also commonly used – any non-standard pressure plate must fit the BMW OE flywheel (M57 / M57N / M57N2 / N54 / B58). For the GS5-39DZ gearbox, a 240 mm clutch disc with a 28x35-10N spline must be used.

Which starter motor should be used?

BMW M50 / M52 / M54 starter motor – including BMW OE 12 41 1 466 102, 12 41 1 712 937, 12 41 1 715 238, 12 41 1 735 524, 12 41 1 738 602, 12 41 1 738 604, 12 41 1 740 375, 12 41 1 740 378, 12 41 1 740 379, 12 41 2 344 247 or 12 41 2 354 709. The starter adapter is included in the kit, but the starter motor itself is not.

Can I use the adapter with a 6-speed GS6-53DZ / GS6-53BZ gearbox?

Yes. The PMC Motorsport gearbox adapter itself is universal and fits most BMW gearboxes (applies to adapters produced after 2022). If you change gearboxes, you only need to replace the flywheel and clutch disc.

Does the adapter also fit the ZF 8HP automatic transmission?

Yes. The PMC Motorsport gearbox adapter itself is universal and fits most BMW gearboxes (applies to adapters produced after 2022). When converting to a ZF 8HP automatic transmission, the standard flywheel must be replaced with a PMC Motorsport 8HP torque converter adapter.

How does Race Stage 1+ differ from Race Stage 1?

Both kits share the same adapter, flywheel, Sachs Performance pressure plate, and sintered disc (max. 800 Nm). Race Stage 1+ additionally includes the release module with clutch fork and slave cylinder, so you don't need to select and buy them separately.

Can I buy only the adapter or only the flywheel?

Yes. Every component of the kit is available separately – including the adapter with flywheel only, without the clutch.

Does the price include customs duties for shipping outside the European Union?

No. The product price and shipping estimate do not include customs duties or additional fees that may apply in the destination country.

Is the included manual sufficient for installation?

The manual covers connecting the engine to the transmission outside the vehicle body. Depending on the car, additional modifications may be required: mounts, bushings, engine firewall, transmission tunnel, driveshaft length. Professional installation is recommended.

Please note that a lightweight rigid flywheel provides uncompromising throttle response at the expense of removing factory damping elements. This results in a more direct drivetrain operation, which may naturally increase noise from transmission components. This is a characteristic feature in sports vehicles resulting from the rigid connection between engine and drivetrain.
