Installation Instructions

Bolt the flywheel to the crankshaft using the supplied bolts and torque them to 130 Nm (95.9 lb⋅ft) using threadlocker. Install the clutch release fork on the lower position of the release bearing (when using a dual-position release bearing). A 240 mm clutch disc with a 32.5x35-26N spline dedicated to the GS6-53BZ gearbox must be used. To mount the adapter, use a BMW M50 / M52 / M54 starter motor (not included in the kit) – an opening for the starter motor must be prepared in the gearbox bellhousing. The PMC flywheel includes its own starter ring gear, so an automatic transmission flexplate / flywheel is not required.

Which clutch pressure plate fits the PMC flywheel?

A 240 mm (9.45") BMW OE type clutch pressure plate – from BMW M57 / M57N / M57N2 / N54 (including the factory GS6-53BZ pressure plate) / B58 / E46 M3, or Sachs Performance 883082.001243, as well as Sachs XTend 3000 951 952 (M57N / M57N2) and Sachs XTend 3000 951 949 (N54 / N55). ACT / Spec / Tanaci clutches are also commonly used – any aftermarket pressure plate must fit the BMW OE flywheel pattern (M57 / M57N / M57N2 / N54 / B58). For your gearbox, use a clutch disc with the corresponding spline, dedicated clutch release assembly, and slave cylinder.

On which position of the release bearing should the clutch fork be installed?

On the lower position of the release bearing (when using a dual-position bearing) – as illustrated in the graphic within the "Installation Instructions" section.

Which starter motor should be used?

Can I use the adapter with another BMW gearbox, such as the GS6-53DZ?

Yes. The PMC Motorsport adapter plate itself is universal and fits the vast majority of BMW manual gearboxes (applies to adapter plates manufactured after 2022). In case of changing the gearbox model, you only need to swap the flywheel and clutch disc.

Does the adapter also fit the ZF 8HP automatic transmission?

Yes. The PMC Motorsport adapter plate itself is universal and fits most BMW transmissions (applies to adapter plates manufactured after 2022). When converting to a ZF 8HP automatic transmission, the standard flywheel is replaced with a PMC Motorsport 8HP torque converter adapter plate.

What is included in the kit?

An aluminum gearbox adapter plate (20 mm) with mounting bolts, a custom PMC Motorsport flywheel with a replaceable friction plate, crankshaft bolts, pressure plate bolts, and a clutch fork pivot pin – replacement for BMW OE 21 51 1 223 328. The clutch disc, pressure plate, release bearing, clutch fork, and slave cylinder are not included in the kit and must be matched to your gearbox.

Can I purchase only the adapter plate or only the flywheel?

Yes. Each individual element of the kit can be purchased separately.

Is the included instruction manual sufficient for full installation?

The manual describes mating the engine and gearbox outside the vehicle body. Depending on the car chassis, custom fabrication may be necessary: engine/transmission mounts, bushings, firewall modifications, transmission tunnel clearance, propshaft length. Professional installation is strongly recommended.

Please note that a lightweight single-mass flywheel provides uncompromising throttle response and engine revving dynamics at the expense of factory vibration damping. This delivers a more direct drivetrain feel, which can lead to a natural increase in audible gear rattle / chatter from the gearbox mechanisms. This is a normal, expected characteristic in motorsport applications, resulting from a rigid connection between the engine and drivetrain.
