Purpose-built for compatible BMW E36 vehicles equipped with the M50TUB25 engine and factory Bosch M3.3.1 ECU, the G4X BMW E36X Plug-In ECU (201-4000) replaces the original engine management system using the factory ECU mounting location, original wiring harness and connectors. The ECU is designed to be installed inside the factory ECU enclosure. For confirmed compatible applications, installation requires no modifications to the original engine wiring harness. Most factory functions are supported, depending on the vehicle and configuration. The ECU includes a startup map that must be checked and calibrated for the specific engine before startup. This solution provides a clean, reliable installation while maintaining a factory appearance.
Link G4X Plug-In ECUs use the same processor, firmware, configuration software and standard G4X feature set as other units in the G4X range. Features include dual CAN Bus, Flex Fuel support, flexible engine protection limiters, CAN keypad control, open and closed loop boost control, dual closed loop lambda control, VVT control, a built-in trigger oscilloscope, compatibility with aftermarket displays, direct automatic transmission control and 512 MB of internal data logging memory. The ECU also features a built-in MAP sensor.
Transmission compatibility: According to Link ECU specifications, the E36X is compatible with vehicles equipped with either manual or automatic transmissions, provided the engine and factory ECU requirements are met. However, automatic transmission control functions depend on the specific application and may require additional wiring and ECU configuration. Compatibility with an automatic transmission vehicle does not automatically mean that all factory transmission functions can be controlled directly.
Based on Link's award-winning G4X motorsport platform, the E36X also supports advanced tuning and motorsport features such as Nitrous Control, Launch Control, Anti-Lag, Cruise Control, Traction Control, Race Timer and Power Management, Gear Shift Control and Paddle Shift Control. The availability and operation of individual functions depend on the vehicle, wiring, additional equipment and ECU configuration.
The Link Plug-In ECU is an ideal solution for compatible vehicles with an electrical system in good working condition. It provides modern engine management without the complex installation associated with Wire-In ECUs. ECU setup and tuning are performed using LINK PCLink software.

Important: The E36X is not a universal Plug-In ECU for all BMW E36 models. Compatibility requires the correct engine code, factory Bosch ECU version, connector arrangement and original wiring harness. Other BMW engines and ECU versions are not automatically supported.

- The unit features a built-in MAP sensor. Depending on the hardware version, the internal MAP sensor may be rated to measure absolute pressure up to 4 Bar or 7 Bar.

- Most factory functions are supported, depending on the vehicle and ECU configuration.
- Using E-Throttle (Drive-By-Wire) control requires ECU modification or a suitable additional control solution, together with the necessary wiring and configuration.
- E-Throttle is not available as a standard Plug-In function without the required modifications.
- The included startup map is an initial configuration, not a ready-to-use, fully tuned engine map. Before startup, all relevant engine settings, wiring and signal assignments, sensor calibrations and ECU parameters must be checked and verified.
