Installation instructions

To install the flywheel, it is necessary to use the automatic version flexplate Toyota OE 32101-30090 | 32101-22050 and a 4.5mm spacer washer between the engine block and the flexplate OE 32116-22020 (not included). The clutch release arm is mounted in the lower release bearing position. Enlargement of the JZ starter lower mounting hole is required (as shown in the instructions)

1. Which starter motor should be used with the PMC Motorsport Toyota JZ 1JZ 2JZ - BMW adapter?

For the installation of the adapter, a Toyota JZ starter motor without an additional pinion shield must be used. Depending on the version of your Toyota JZ 1JZ 2JZ - BMW adapter, there are three ways to install the starter motor:

a) Adapters produced up to 2022 - the starter motor is mounted identically to the original equipment (OE).

b) Adapters produced from 2022 to 2025 - one of the starter mounting holes in the engine block must be enlarged. Drill out the hole using a drill bit to a diameter of ∅12.9-13.2 mm (0.507"-0.520") to a depth of 22 mm (0.866"). Then use sleeve AN 335-M10 from the kit and tighten with bolt ISO4762-M10x35.

c) Adapters produced from January 2025 onwards - enlarge the lower starter mounting hole to a diameter of ∅12-13 mm and thread the engine block to M12x1.5.

2. Which ring gear / flexplate should be used for the PMC Motorsport Toyota JZ 1JZ 2JZ - BMW flywheel?

When installing the PMC Motorsport Toyota JZ 1JZ 2JZ - BMW flywheel, you must use the flexplate (ring gear) from the automatic version of Toyota 1JZ / 2JZ (OE part number: 32101-30090 | 32101-22050) and one Toyota spacer washer (OE part number: 32116-22020) with a thickness of 4.5 mm between the engine block and the flexplate.

3. The GETRAG 250 / GETRAG 420 / ZF 310 / ZF 320 / ZF5 gearbox does not align with all holes of the PMC Motorsport adapter plate.

When engineering the adapter, we decided on certain trade-offs. This is the case with GETRAG 250 / GETRAG 420 / ZF 310 / ZF 320 / ZF5 gearboxes, where the two upper holes in the gearbox housing/bellhousing need to be slightly clearanced/ground down. This modification does not affect the centering of the engine and gearbox.

4. Can I use the gearbox adapter plate with a 6-speed GS6-53DZ / GS6-53BZ gearbox?

Yes, the PMC Motorsport gearbox adapter plate itself is universal and fits most BMW gearboxes on the market (applies to adapters produced after 2022). If you wish to change the gearbox later, you only need to swap the flywheel and clutch disc.

5. Can I use the PMC Motorsport Toyota 1JZ 2JZ - BMW gearbox adapter plate for a ZF 8HP?

Yes, the PMC Motorsport gearbox adapter plate itself is universal and fits most BMW gearboxes on the market (applies to adapters produced after 2022). If you wish to convert to a ZF 8HP automatic transmission, the standard flywheel must be replaced with an 8HP torque converter adapter (PMC Motorsport).

6. Which clutch can I use with the PMC Motorsport flywheel?

The Toyota 1JZ 2JZ - BMW ZF5 flywheel is designed for a clutch pressure plate from BMW M57 / M57N / M57N2 / N54 / B58 / BMW E46 M3 / Sachs Performance 883082.001243. Very often, aftermarket clutches from ACT / Spec / Tanaci are used with our kit (it is important that the custom clutch pressure plate also fits the BMW OE flywheel: BMW M57 / M57N / M57N2 / N54 / B58). For your gearbox, use a clutch disc with the appropriate spline, a dedicated release mechanism, and a slave cylinder.
