Installation manual

Installing the flywheel requires using the automatic transmission flexplate (starter ring gear) from the automatic version Mercedes-Benz OM605 / OM606 OE 102 032 06 06 (not included). Tighten the flywheel bolts to the crankshaft with a torque of 80 Nm (59 lb⋅ft) using threadlocker. Mount the clutch fork (dedicated to your gearbox) on the lower position of the release bearing (in the case of a two-position bearing). A 240 mm clutch disc with a 32.5x35-26N spline dedicated to the GS6-53DZ transmission must be used. To mount the adapter, use the original Mercedes-Benz OM605 / OM606 starter motor (OE, not included). The release bearing, clutch fork, and clutch slave cylinder are not included in the kit – they are retained from your gearbox.

Is the kit suitable for daily driving?

The Race Stage 1 kit with a sintered disc is primarily intended for motorsport – clutch engagement is firmer, more aggressive, and less progressive than with an organic disc. For a predominantly daily-driven vehicle, we recommend the Stage 1 kit with the Sachs XTend clutch.

Can I use a different clutch?

Yes. The PMC Motorsport flywheel is designed for a 240 mm BMW OE type pressure plate – from BMW M57N / M57N2 / N54 / B58 / E46 M3, Sachs XTend 3000 951 952 (M57N / M57N2), or Sachs Performance 883082.001243. ACT / Spec / Tanaci clutches are also commonly used – an aftermarket pressure plate must match the BMW OE flywheel pattern (M57N / M57N2 / N54 / B58).

It is worth noting that a lightweight rigid single-mass flywheel provides uncompromising throttle response at the cost of eliminating factory damping elements. This results in a more direct drivetrain operation, which may cause a natural increase in audible gearbox chatter. This is a normal and desired characteristic in sports vehicles resulting from the rigid mechanical connection between the engine and the drivetrain.
