Installing the flywheel requires the automatic transmission flywheel (flexplate / ring gear) Mercedes-Benz OE A2730300312 (not included). Crankshaft bolts are included in the kit. To mount the adapter plate, use the original Mercedes-Benz M113 / M113K starter motor (OE, not included). Mount the included clutch fork on the lower release bearing position (in the case of a dual-position bearing). Petrol engine gearboxes (ZF-5, Getrag 250G / 420G) and diesel gearboxes (GS5-39DZ) share the same bolt pattern but feature different mounting angles on the adapter – ensure the GS5-39DZ gearbox is bolted in the position designated for diesel transmissions. If the gearbox sits at the wrong angle after bolt tightening, correct the installation. The release bearing, clutch fork, and clutch slave cylinder are included in the kit.

Is the kit suitable for daily driving?

The Race Stage 1+ kit with a sintered clutch disc is primarily designed for motorsport – the clutch operates firmer and engages more aggressively than an organic disc. For a vehicle used primarily as a daily driver, we recommend the Stage 1 kit with the Sachs XTend clutch.

Can I use a different clutch?

Yes. The PMC Motorsport flywheel is designed for a 240 mm BMW OE type pressure plate – from BMW M57 / M57N / M57N2 / N54 / B58 / E46 M3 or Sachs Performance 883082.001243. ACT / Spec / Tanaci clutches are also commonly used – any aftermarket pressure plate must fit the BMW OE flywheel pattern (M57 / M57N / M57N2 / N54 / B58). For the GS5-39DZ gearbox, use a 240 mm clutch disc with a 28x35-10N spline.

Which starter motor should be used?

The original Mercedes-Benz M113 / M113K (OE) starter motor. The starter motor is not included in the kit.

Can I use this adapter plate with a 6-speed GS6-53DZ / GS6-53BZ gearbox?

Yes. The PMC Motorsport adapter plate itself is universal and fits most BMW gearboxes (applies to adapters manufactured after 2022). If you switch to another gearbox model, you only need to replace the flywheel and clutch disc.

Does the adapter plate also fit the ZF 8HP automatic transmission?

Yes. The PMC Motorsport adapter plate itself is universal and fits most BMW transmissions (applies to adapters manufactured after 2022). When converting to a ZF 8HP automatic transmission, the standard flywheel is replaced with a PMC Motorsport 8HP torque converter adapter.

How does Race Stage 1+ differ from Race Stage 1?

Both kits share the same adapter plate, flywheel, Sachs Performance pressure plate, and sintered clutch disc (max. 800 Nm). Race Stage 1+ additionally includes the clutch release module with clutch fork and the clutch slave cylinder, so you don't need to select and purchase them separately.

Can I purchase only the adapter plate or only the flywheel?

Yes. Every component of the kit is available separately – including the adapter plate with flywheel kit, without clutch.

Is the installation manual provided with the kit sufficient?

The manual describes mating the engine and gearbox outside the vehicle body. Depending on the car chassis, additional modifications may be required: mounts, bushings, firewall clearance, transmission tunnel shaping, driveshaft length adjustments. We recommend installation by professionals.

Please note that a lightweight single-mass flywheel provides uncompromising throttle response at the expense of eliminating factory damping elements. This results in more direct drivetrain operation, which may naturally increase gear rollover noise from transmission mechanisms. This is a normal, desired characteristic in motorsport vehicles resulting from the rigid mechanical connection between the engine and drivetrain.
