Installation guide

To mount the flywheel, it is necessary to use the flexplate (starter ring gear) from an automatic transmission version Nissan RB OE 12331-AA110 (not included). Crankshaft bolts are included in the kit.

For adapter installation, the original Nissan RB starter motor (OE, not included) must be used.

In ZF-5 (ZF 310 / ZF 320) and Getrag 250 / 420G gearboxes, the two upper holes in the gearbox housing (bellhousing) need to be slightly ground down – this modification does not affect the engine and gearbox centering.

Release bearing, clutch fork, and slave cylinder are not included in the kit: release bearing BMW OE 21 51 7 521 360 (1-position) or 21 51 7 570 154 (2-position), clutch fork BMW OE 21 51 1 223 302 (1-position) or 21 51 7 564 027 (2-position), clutch slave cylinder BMW OE 21 52 1 164 529 (Ø 23.81 mm).

Which gearboxes is this adapter compatible with?

For 5-speed ZF-5 (ZF S5D-310 / ZF 310 and ZF S5D-320 / ZF 320) and Getrag S5D-250G gearboxes from BMW M50 / M52 / M54 / S50 / S52 / S54 engines (e.g. E36 328i, E46 328i / 328Ci / 330i, E34 525i, E39 525i / 528i / 530i, Z3 2.8i / 3.0i), as well as 6-speed Getrag 420G (TBAB, TAGU) from BMW E36 M3 (S50). The flywheel does not fit the 6-speed BMW M54 gearbox.

Is it necessary to cut the gearbox bellhousing?

No. The adapter is designed to avoid cutting the bellhousing – you only need to prepare an opening for the starter motor.

Does the ZF-5 / Getrag gearbox fit all holes of the adapter?

The PMC Motorsport adapter is the most universal adapter available on the market, supporting virtually every BMW gearbox. When designing it, we made certain compromises – in Getrag 250 / Getrag 420 / ZF 310 / ZF 320 / ZF-5 gearboxes, the two upper holes need to be slightly ground down in the gearbox housing (bellhousing). This modification does not affect the centering of the engine and gearbox.

What additional parts do I need to buy for installation?

Flexplate (starter ring gear) from automatic transmission version Nissan RB – OE 12331-AA110 and original Nissan RB (OE) starter motor. You will also need a 240 mm clutch pressure plate and disc (23x29-10N), release bearing, clutch fork, and slave cylinder dedicated to the ZF-5 / Getrag gearbox. These parts are not included in the kit.

Which clutch pressure plate fits the PMC flywheel?

Pressure plate with a diameter of 240 mm (9.45") BMW OE type – from BMW M57 / M57N / M57N2 / N54 / B58 / E46 M3, Sachs XTend 3000 951 877 (BMW M57) or Sachs Performance 883082.001243. ACT / Spec / Tanaci clutches are also commonly used – any non-standard pressure plate must fit the BMW OE flywheel (M57 / M57N / M57N2 / N54 / B58). For the ZF-5 gearbox, a 240 mm clutch disc with 23x29-10N spline, dedicated release kit, and slave cylinder must be used.

Can I use the adapter with a 6-speed GS6-53DZ / GS6-53BZ gearbox?

Yes. The PMC Motorsport gearbox adapter itself is universal and fits most BMW gearboxes (applies to adapters produced after 2022). If you change gearboxes, you only need to replace the flywheel and clutch disc.

Does the adapter also fit the ZF 8HP automatic transmission?

Yes. The PMC Motorsport gearbox adapter itself is universal and fits most BMW gearboxes (applies to adapters produced after 2022). When converting to a ZF 8HP automatic transmission, the standard flywheel must be replaced with a PMC Motorsport 8HP torque converter adapter.

What is included in the kit?

Is the included manual sufficient for installation?

The manual covers connecting the engine to the transmission outside the vehicle body. Depending on the car, additional modifications may be required: mounts, bushings, engine firewall, transmission tunnel, driveshaft length. Professional installation is recommended.

Please note that a lightweight rigid flywheel provides uncompromising throttle response at the expense of removing factory damping elements. This results in a more direct drivetrain operation, which may naturally increase noise from transmission components. This is a characteristic feature in sports vehicles resulting from the rigid connection between engine and drivetrain.
