Installation Manual

Installation of the flywheel requires the automatic transmission ring gear / flexplate Toyota OE 32101-30090 or 32101-22050 and a 4.5 mm spacer washer between the engine block and flexplate, Toyota OE 32116-22020 (not included). Bolt the flywheel to the crankshaft using the supplied bolts, torqued to 72 Nm (53.1 lb⋅ft) using threadlocker. Mount the clutch fork on the lower release bearing position (for dual-position bearings). A Toyota JZ starter motor without an additional nose cone / pinion cover must be used – see details in the FAQ section.

Which additional parts do I need to complete the installation?

A Toyota 1JZ / 2JZ automatic transmission ring gear / flexplate, OE 32101-30090 or 32101-22050, and one 4.5 mm spacer washer between the engine block and flexplate, Toyota OE 32116-22020. You will also need a 240 mm pressure plate and clutch disc (28x35-10N), release bearing, clutch fork, and clutch slave cylinder dedicated to the S5D-280Z transmission, as well as a Toyota JZ starter motor (see question below). These parts are not included in the kit.

Which clutch pressure plate fits the PMC flywheel?

A 240 mm (9.45") BMW OE type pressure plate – from BMW M57 / M57N / M57N2 / N54 / B58 / E46 M3 or Sachs Performance 883082.001243, as well as Sachs XTend 3000 951 877 (BMW M57). ACT / Spec / Tanaci clutches are also commonly used – any aftermarket pressure plate must fit the BMW OE flywheel pattern (M57 / M57N / M57N2 / N54 / B58). For the S5D-280Z gearbox, use a 240 mm clutch disc with a 28x35-10N spline, along with the corresponding release bearing setup and slave cylinder.

Which starter motor should be used?

A Toyota JZ starter motor without an additional nose cone / pinion cover. The mounting procedure depends on the adapter production year:

a) adapters produced up to 2022 – the starter motor is mounted identically to the original equipment (OE) setup;

b) adapters produced from 2022 to 2025 – one of the starter mounting holes in the engine block must be drilled out to ∅12.9–13.2 mm (0.507"–0.520") to a depth of 22 mm (0.866"), then fitted with the supplied AN 335-M10 sleeve and secured with an ISO 4762-M10x35 bolt;

c) adapters produced from January 2025 onwards – enlarge the lower starter mounting hole to ∅12–13 mm and tap the engine block to M12x1.5.

Can I use this adapter with the 6-speed GS6-53DZ / GS6-53BZ gearbox?

Yes. The PMC Motorsport gearbox adapter plate itself is universal and fits most BMW transmissions (applies to adapters produced after 2022). If you switch to another transmission, you only need to change the flywheel and clutch disc.

Does this adapter also fit the ZF 8HP automatic transmission?

Yes. The PMC Motorsport adapter plate itself is universal and fits most BMW transmissions (applies to adapters produced after 2022). When converting to a ZF 8HP automatic transmission, the standard flywheel must be replaced with a PMC Motorsport 8HP torque converter adapter plate.

What is included in the kit?

Aluminum gearbox adapter plate with mounting bolts, custom PMC Motorsport flywheel with replaceable friction surface, crankshaft bolts, pressure plate mounting bolts, and clutch ball pivot pin – replacement for BMW OE 21 51 1 223 328. The clutch disc, pressure plate, release bearing, clutch fork, and slave cylinder are not included and must be selected to match your gearbox.

Is the included manual sufficient for the complete swap?

The manual describes mating the engine to the transmission outside the car. Depending on your chassis, additional modifications may be required: engine mounts, bushings, firewall modifications, transmission tunnel clearance, and driveshaft length. We recommend professional installation.

Please note that a lightweight single-mass flywheel provides uncompromising throttle response at the expense of eliminating factory damping elements. This results in a more direct drivetrain operation, which may naturally increase gear chatter and mechanical transmission noise. This is a normal and expected characteristic in motorsport applications, resulting from the rigid mechanical connection between engine and drivetrain.
