Installation manual

Installing the flywheel requires the automatic transmission flywheel (flexplate / ring gear) Toyota OE 32101-30090 or 32101-22050 and a 4.5 mm spacer washer between the engine block and ring gear, Toyota OE 32116-22020 (not included). Bolt the flywheel to the crankshaft using the supplied bolts to 72 Nm (53.1 lb⋅ft) using threadlocker. Mount the clutch fork on the lower release bearing position (in the case of a dual-position bearing). To mount the adapter plate, use a Toyota JZ starter motor without an additional pinion snout/cover – see details in the FAQ section.

Which clutch pressure plate fits the PMC flywheel?

A 240 mm (9.45") BMW OE type clutch pressure plate – from BMW M57 / M57N / M57N2 / N54 / B58 / E46 M3 or Sachs Performance 883082.001243, as well as Sachs XTend 3000 951 877 (BMW M57). ACT / Spec / Tanaci clutches are also commonly used – any aftermarket pressure plate must fit the BMW OE flywheel pattern (M57 / M57N / M57N2 / N54 / B58). For the S5D-280Z gearbox, use a 240 mm clutch disc with a 23x29-10N spline, a dedicated release bearing assembly, and a matching slave cylinder.

Which starter motor should be used?

A Toyota JZ starter motor without an additional pinion snout/cover. The installation method depends on the adapter version:

a) adapters manufactured up to 2022 – the starter motor installs identically to original equipment (OE);

b) adapters manufactured from 2022 to 2025 – one of the starter mounting holes in the engine block must be drilled out to ∅12.9–13.2 mm (0.507"–0.520") to a depth of 22 mm (0.866"), then install the sleeve from the AN 335-M10 kit and bolt it down with an ISO 4762-M10x35 bolt;

c) adapters manufactured from January 2025 – the lower mounting hole in the starter motor must be enlarged to ∅12–13 mm and the engine block threaded to M12x1.5.

Can I use this adapter plate with a 6-speed GS6-53DZ / GS6-53BZ gearbox?

Yes. The PMC Motorsport adapter plate itself is universal and fits most BMW gearboxes (applies to adapters manufactured after 2022). If you switch to another gearbox model, you only need to replace the flywheel and clutch disc.

Does the adapter plate also fit the ZF 8HP automatic transmission?

Yes. The PMC Motorsport adapter plate itself is universal and fits most BMW transmissions (applies to adapters manufactured after 2022). When converting to a ZF 8HP automatic transmission, the standard flywheel is replaced with a PMC Motorsport 8HP torque converter adapter.

What does the kit include?

Aluminum gearbox adapter plate with mounting bolts, custom PMC Motorsport flywheel with replaceable friction surface, crankshaft bolts, pressure plate mounting bolts, and clutch fork pivot pin – replacement for BMW OE 21 51 1 223 328. The manual describes mating the engine and gearbox outside the vehicle body. Depending on the car chassis, additional modifications may be required: mounts, bushings, firewall clearance, transmission tunnel shaping, driveshaft length adjustments. We recommend installation by professionals.

Please note that a lightweight single-mass flywheel provides uncompromising throttle response at the expense of eliminating factory damping elements. This results in more direct drivetrain operation, which may naturally increase gear rollover noise from transmission mechanisms. This is a normal, desired characteristic in motorsport vehicles resulting from the rigid mechanical connection between the engine and drivetrain.
