Installation Manual

Installation of the flywheel requires the automatic transmission ring gear / flexplate Toyota OE 32101-30090 or 32101-22050 and a 4.5 mm spacer washer between the engine block and flexplate, Toyota OE 32116-22020 (not included). Bolt the flywheel to the crankshaft using the supplied bolts, torqued to 72 Nm (53.1 lb⋅ft) using threadlocker. Mount the clutch fork from the kit on the lower release bearing position (for dual-position bearings). A Toyota JZ starter motor without an additional nose cone / pinion cover must be used – see details in the FAQ section. The clutch release bearing and clutch fork (release module) are included in the kit. The clutch slave cylinder is not included – use a slave cylinder dedicated to your gearbox.

Which gearboxes does the kit fit?

Do I need to cut the gearbox bellhousing?

No. The adapter is designed to eliminate the need to cut the bellhousing – only an opening for the starter motor needs to be made.

Can I use a different clutch?

Yes. The PMC Motorsport flywheel is designed for a 240 mm BMW OE type pressure plate – from BMW M57 / M57N / M57N2 / N54 / B58 / E46 M3 or Sachs Performance 883082.001243. ACT / Spec / Tanaci clutches are also commonly used – any aftermarket pressure plate must fit the BMW OE flywheel pattern (M57 / M57N / M57N2 / N54 / B58). For the S5D-280Z gearbox, use a 240 mm clutch disc with a 28x35-10N spline.

Which starter motor should be used?

A Toyota JZ starter motor without an additional nose cone / pinion cover. The mounting procedure depends on the adapter production year:

a) adapters produced up to 2022 – the starter motor is mounted identically to the original equipment (OE) setup;

b) adapters produced from 2022 to 2025 – one of the starter mounting holes in the engine block must be drilled out to ∅12.9–13.2 mm (0.507"–0.520") to a depth of 22 mm (0.866"), then fitted with the supplied AN 335-M10 sleeve and secured with an ISO 4762-M10x35 bolt;

c) adapters produced from January 2025 onwards – enlarge the lower starter mounting hole to ∅12–13 mm and tap the engine block to M12x1.5.

Can I use this adapter with the 6-speed GS6-53DZ / GS6-53BZ gearbox?

Yes. The PMC Motorsport gearbox adapter plate itself is universal and fits most BMW transmissions (applies to adapters produced after 2022). If you switch to another transmission, you only need to change the flywheel and clutch disc.

Does this adapter also fit the ZF 8HP automatic transmission?

Yes. The PMC Motorsport adapter plate itself is universal and fits most BMW transmissions (applies to adapters produced after 2022). When converting to a ZF 8HP automatic transmission, the standard flywheel must be replaced with a PMC Motorsport 8HP torque converter adapter plate.

What is included in the kit?

Yes. Every component in the kit is available for purchase separately – including the adapter with the flywheel without the clutch kit.

Is the included manual sufficient for the complete swap?

The manual describes mating the engine to the transmission outside the car. Depending on your chassis, additional modifications may be required: engine mounts, bushings, firewall modifications, transmission tunnel clearance, and driveshaft length. We recommend professional installation.

Please note that a lightweight single-mass flywheel provides uncompromising throttle response at the expense of eliminating factory damping elements. This results in a more direct drivetrain operation, which may naturally increase gear chatter and mechanical transmission noise. This is a normal and expected characteristic in motorsport applications, resulting from the rigid mechanical connection between engine and drivetrain.
